The route runs north on the motorway network. From Karachi the driver joins the M9 toward Hyderabad, then picks up the M5 and M4 through interior Sindh and central Punjab, and finally the M2 into Islamabad. It is a long but smooth highway drive of roughly 18 to 22 hours.

Best Vehicle for Karachi to Islamabad
Honda Civic is one of the most comfortable choices for a long motorway run. The cabin is quiet, the ride is smooth, and fuel efficiency keeps costs down over 1,400 km. Ideal for one to three travellers.
Toyota Corolla is equally capable on the motorway and equally popular. A well maintained, air conditioned sedan that handles the long highway distances without complaint. Great value for smaller groups.
Toyota Fortuner is the preferred vehicle for families or anyone travelling with significant luggage. The higher seating position makes the long drive more comfortable, the boot space is generous, and the Fortuner handles a variety of road conditions, which matters if you are continuing north of Islamabad into the hills.
For groups of five or more, the Toyota Hiace is the practical answer. Everyone travels together in a single vehicle, costs are shared, and the driver manages all the luggage.

Things to Do in Islamabad
Islamabad is a planned city with wide boulevards, green hills, and a pace quite unlike Karachi. If you have time between appointments or before heading further north, these are worth your time:
Faisal Mosque is one of the most distinctive buildings in the country, designed by Turkish architect Vedat Dalokay. The scale is remarkable and the setting at the foot of the Margalla Hills makes it visually striking at any time of day.
Margalla Hills National Park begins right at the city’s edge. Trail 3 is the most accessible and gives views over the entire capital within a short walk. Early mornings are best for the cool air and the birdsong.
Daman e Koh is a viewpoint up in the Margalla Hills with a panoramic view of the city. It is a short drive from the main Islamabad grid and worth the trip for the perspective it gives on how the capital is laid out.
Lok Virsa Museum houses a comprehensive collection of Pakistani folk art, crafts, music, and cultural artifacts. If you have an interest in Sindh, Balochistan, or the north’s handcraft traditions, this museum is genuinely impressive.
Rawalpindi sits immediately adjacent to Islamabad and has a completely different character: older, denser, and full of traditional bazaars. Raja Bazaar and the food streets near Liaquat Bagh are worth an evening.
F7 Markaz and Centaurus are the city’s main commercial hubs if you need shopping or meetings in a central location. The driver can drop you and wait or return at an agreed time.
Islamabad as the Gateway to the North
One of the most common reasons travellers make this trip is to reach the north. Islamabad sits at the threshold of some of Pakistan’s most spectacular mountain regions. From here you can continue toward:
Naran and Kaghan Valley: about 4 to 5 hours north of Islamabad. A seasonal route best from June through September.
Hunza via the Karakoram Highway: one of the great road journeys in the world, with the valley itself a destination that draws visitors from across the globe.
Skardu: the gateway to Baltistan and the base camp treks of K2 and Broad Peak.

For travel beyond Islamabad into the northern regions, we strongly recommend the Toyota Fortuner or Toyota Land Cruiser, both of which are built for mountain roads. Good to Know
Departure timing. An evening departure from Karachi works well for business travellers wanting to arrive in Islamabad by morning. For families, a midday departure with a planned overnight stop at a midpoint city is often more comfortable.
Driver rest and safety. We do not ask drivers to push through 22 hours without rest. For overnight runs, the journey includes planned stops. If two drivers are needed for your specific schedule, we will discuss that option with you.
Return trips. Many customers book the return trip at the same time. We can also arrange a one way drop with no return. Just tell us what you need at booking.
Luggage. If you are travelling with a lot of luggage, mention it when you book so we can confirm the right vehicle. An overloaded car on a 1,400 km run is not comfortable for anyone.
