A road trip from Karachi to Hunza along the legendary Karakoram Highway is a once-in-a-lifetime adventure. It’s long and remote, which is exactly why you want a capable 4x4 and a driver who has done the KKH before, so you can simply take in the mountains.
The journey
This is a serious expedition, around 1,900 km, driven over two to three days each way with planned overnight stops, typically routing up through the country and onto the Karakoram Highway into Gilgit-Baltistan. The high-altitude roads demand a strong vehicle and an experienced hand at the wheel.
Best vehicle for this route
- Toyota Land Cruiser: the definitive Hunza vehicle, with 4x4 strength, comfort and reliability on the KKH and high passes.
- Toyota Fortuner: a capable, comfortable choice for smaller groups.

Good to know
The best window is roughly May to October. Khunjerab Pass and the high points are weather-dependent, so we plan the itinerary around the season. Because Hunza is a long commitment, book well ahead. WhatsApp us your dates and group size and we’ll build the full trip plan.
